Criminal Trespass to Vehicles and Criminal Damage to Motor Vehicles

Governed by Illinois Criminal Code 720 Ilcs 5/21-2

A person who, without authority to do so damages a vehicle, or removes any part of that vehicle, or tampers with a vehicle, goes into the vehicle, or works on a vehicle commits a Class a Misdemeanor punishable up to 364 days in the County jail with a possible fine of $2,500. a person convicted of this offense a second time is guilty of a Class 4 Felony punishable by 1 to 3 years in the State Penitentiary with a possible fine of $25,000. This is governed by the Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/4-102.

Whoever knowingly, and without authority, enters any part of, or operates any vehicle, aircraft, watercraft or snowmobile commits a Class a Misdemeanor punishable up to 364 days in the County jail with a possible fine of $2,500.
