Class X Based on Prior Convictions (Enhanced Felony Penalties)

In Illinois, a person over the age of 21 who is charged with a Class 2 or greater offense and has two previous convictions for Class 2 or greater offenses (in any state or federal court, arising out of different events and at different times) shall be sentenced as a Class X offender. 730 ILCS 5/5-3-8(c)(8).
